Maxspec gyre is legit!

The ruggedized propellers had 4 blazes instead of 8 in the original model. On one end it has the white plastic like the one shown in the link while the other end come with hard plastic instead of flimsy plastic gaskets. If you still have warranty on your gyre I would suggest contact the manufacture to get replacement. In my case they gave me 50% credit toward my order of new propellers.
When I replaced mine, the ruggedized version wasn't available yet. Maxspect should have done a recall on the older version. (;

Agree with 009. Mine was under warranty and when my original propellors broke coralvue gave me a 50% discount so I bought two sets. No problems with the new propellors over the past 9 months. The pump cleans easy and I don't worry about breaking the propellors.

I felt the same way. I'm sure they can work something out. Try contacting them.

Thanks for the posts and opinions/info. I am trying to decide what to use for my new 150 build and the newer rugged Gyro in on my short list. the display will have a smooth wier near full coast to coast overflow - so dont want alot of surface aggitation as I want the full surface skimming effect of the smooth wier. I will be pushing about 1500 GPH from sump - split into 2 back corners. So, keep posting on these pumps, need info to help make a decision.

I believe you... memories not what it used to be lol but I know I've had this tank a little over 2 years and got the gyre after tossing some Jebao's. Maybe it was further after release than I remember.
U are correct I was a year off November of 2014

I had the original and it was great for a while. It was a little noisy w/o the new mount and in a matter of time pretty much everything about it was broken and it needed cleaning constantly. The old rotors would just shatter if anything got near it (mini ceriths) and sometimes for no apparent reason, drive cogs stripped, rubber grommets came apart etc. Once one fin came loose and dominoed about 3/4 of the fins. I got gouged by Coralvue for fifty some dollars on replacement rotors and new drive cogs (these had a flange) only to have the fins come off those. Eventually I tossed it in the junk bin when no matter what I did the left side would not turn once in the water. While supposedly better now with ruggedized rotors, new mounts etc. its too little to late and I'll stick with Vortech's.
That's my experience down to a t. Stick with vortech. I have mp's with the original metal box that run flawless.

That's what I have I highly doubt it's under warranty as I bought it used so everyone tell me the bad news

Those looks like the ruggedized propellers. You should be in good shape.

those are the original impellers. The rugged ones only have 4 or 5 "fins". The original ones work fine until a snail gets in them, then either the bushing rounds out or the fins break. Use the Original impellers for now but order a set of the rugged ones for future cleanings/repair.

Thanks for the info
Does the ruggid ones come with four or does it come with two? Do u know off the top of ur head?

they come as a set of 2 new props. As mentioned above, there is an A side and a B side prop.

I had the exact same experience with the 150. It's a shame that these companies sell us an untested product and have the general market work as their beta testers.

Ive had the 150 over a year and nothing has broke yettt. I HATE taking the stupid thing apart tho. Feels like im going to break it every time. The little bushing came lose one time but I took it apart, put it back together and have not had an issue. Im not really a fan of the flow. If you have coral on the sand bed it just sucks everything towards it. It does push a lot of water.. I would be happier with two of them on each side. Now I have the Gyre 150 plus 2 RW8's on a 120

In that case you have the improved version with the new bushing then. Most of those made prior of this have the flimsy bushings that just ripped off after couple of months running. In fact that's the #1 complaint beside the snail get in them.

??

Good info here. I have an earlier unit and it was a nightmare. The impellers imploded on themselves several times, and then the keyed shaft strips or becomes out of whack and they don't turn. Gave up on them in a few months. Maybe I'll call them and see if any of it's covered.

I just got the ruggedized propeller in the mail today. Doesn't seem like it has 4 or 5 fins. It looks like the regular or the one that came with the Maxspect Gyre.....?!? I bought this off of CoralVue, did they just scam me lol.

Am not too late to the Maxspect Gyre party am I?

Could you take a picture of your new bushing? Is it rubber or hard plastic with clear plastic insert? The original bushing was made out of rubber and tear off easily. As for the blade my 130 replacement came with only 4 blades, so I'm not sure if the 150 has more blade and if that would make that much different.

I emailed CoralVue and they said the 4 fins was for the XF130. Here is the ruggedized propellers comparison to the in-box one (for the XF-150). I guess it wasn't a scam, they do look a little bit similar.

those look different than the ones I got when I ordered rugged props too. I will try to get a picture of one. Maybe Maxspect is on version 3 of the props or something.
