I have to say the new sign-wave Maxspect 350’s with Wi-Fi controller are absolutely amazing. Dead silent, moving an amount of water that is amazing and actually staying in place on 1” thick glass. One of the best $600.00 I ever spent on my reef.
programming through iPhone is so simple....5 Stars !!!!!!!!

Glad to hear it.

I hope it works as well after it's been apart and cleaned a couple of times?

Can you elaborate on this comment a little more ? Do you own the new 300 series or the older 200 series ?
What happens after you took yours apart a couple times ? Thanks in advance for your insight.

I have the older designs.

The 2 issues I had, are related to each other. First, the motors spin fast enough to move a lot of water. However, they have very little torque. So they have a difficult time pushing past a bit of algae (or nori) that gets sucked into the impeller. But this still isn't my major concern.

If you take the gyre apart to clean (or soak in vinegar), and then have to put it back together, it can be tricky. It's easy to get the big impellers misaligned because they fit into rubber/silicone O-rings rather than being threaded. Any misalignment, by even a little bit, and the motor can't overcome the drag.

My perception of the gyres is that when they work, they can do a great job. But I found they need cleaning too frequently compared to other wavemakers and they are a much bigger pain to reassemble and make run.

All that said, maybe newer models are better. I don't know. And maybe other are better at maintaining them. But I have Jebao, Maxspect and Ice Cap gyres sitting on the shelf in my reef room.

I have 330s. No issues with food chunks (I feed LRS herb frenzy) or post-cleaning.

Parts are reasonably priced on the Coralvue site.

Thanks for your detailed insight. The reason i decided to try them is my application would not allow Ecotech mp 60's and I really needed a flat dispersement of water more than a cone. I watch a lot of reviews on the new 300 series and it seems that both of your major concerns have been addressed. Fingers crossed, so far I'm very happy with them.

Hello Jon. Would a single xf330 be adequate to create a gyre in a 5x2x2 150 gallon tank or just get the xf350 and tune it down?

I have some of the old 350xf (or whatever they are)... like when they first came out. They do move a lot of water, but the flow is not for me. However, I have never taken them apart to clean them and they are fine. The urchins and snails keep them clean and where they cannot, a toothbrush on the exterior has been fine. I have no idea if they are still quiet since the room that they are in is already loud.

In any case, some people reliability issues with theirs, but mine have been really good in this area.
