Hi guys, is anyone familiar with running the gyre on alternating mode, just curious if it works well for you and I believe I have to use same blades and cages (both As or Bs) so when mounted horizontally on the glass which way do I have the cages facing, is it one towards the glass that the mount is on and the other forward into the tank. Thanks for any advice guys.

I run my icecap 1k on alternating mode and for my tank it works great. You sacrifice flow but it definitely mixes up the water movement. I believe the maspects operate the same way as the icecaps. On mine the primary direction has the most power, while the opposite movement is quite a bit less. I just turn mine on and adjust the cages so that the primary direction is hitting where I want (in my case toward the front glass slightly hitting the water surface). Both of my cages are aligned. Not sure how well it would work if they were opposite.

You have to switch the blades and cages to go alternative. That way one side is always “primary” and one side is turbulence and they alternate.

Check the documentation to be sure. One of the modes spins the blades backwards. If you don't change then it won't move any water really. It will, however, dislodge stuff possibly which is a nice feature. If you want to have water movement depending on the motor rotation you will need to use A and B blades. It really is a unique feature when you think about it. Simple change and instance new pump if you will.

I only say this because I had mine doing the ramp down or negative percent and I could look at the blade in the cage and spin backwards. Clearly there was no water movement because the blades faced the other way.
