Hi R2R

I haven't posted for a while but here I am again lol

So I have an issue...I was cleaning one of the maxspect gyre due to having too much coraline and algae in the propellers.
So I took it apart but when I was cleaning the mounting bracket I noticed that the rubber that cover the magnet was peeling off and the magnet was exposed to the water, pretty much the entire rubber backing that goes against the glass in the inside of the tank came off.
Is there a way to fix that? Could or can the magnet being exposed be causing issues with my water quality.
Do they sell replacements?

I use it so there's some flow behind the onside of the tank behind the rocks structure.

I'm a bit concerned in putting back in the tank qith the magnet being expose so that's why I'm asking.
Thank you

Not sure what material they use for their magnets, but a number of them could cause problems.

I recently received back the results for an ICP test that indicated I had very high iron. Folks in the forum recommended I inspect, among other items, all magnets.

i won’t pretend to be an expert, but I would be very cautious about putting it back in.

I actually had the very same thing happened to me.
My ICP came back with high zinc and some what elevated iron. High silicone also.
I'll have to send for another one soon but I wonder now if it has been the exposed magnets causing the issue

Thank you for the reply

Id like to of had use out of mine, it arrived brand new with both internal magnets bare, it wont be going in my tank

So about a year ago when I first purchased my 2K and 4K pumps when I open the boxes, I was shocked to find magnets that were not sealed and would be in the water. I immediately contacted hydros, and they responded to me telling me that they use these in all of their tanks and these types of magnets do not leech anything into your system. At that point I decided what the heck and went ahead and install them and have not had a problem since.

This was our conversation back then. I would love to have an update on this and knkw if it’s still not a problem

Mine is like that as well, no problems in the tank

Those are ceramic magnets and are harmless. Same type of magnet in the majority of return pump impellers. You won’t have any issues.

Ceramic iron oxide is fine.
Neodymiums are another story, but I don't think any reputable brand would use them for reef applications. Easy to spot as they about explode with rust when the bright silver nickel plating fails by being looked at too hard.

I contacted both the retailer and the uk supplier and they told me the same, he is coming back to me by email with the technical specs of these magnets but also assured me they wont harm the tank. They just dont look great exposed and its a natural overreaction i guess when you first see it

Have you been able to doa type of ICP test to verify the levels of the minerals and or metals in you DT.
Thank you for posting the email.

That makes sense tho.

Hi I have the same concerns about these magnets, obviously it would be nice to have some science/verification that these magnets are safe.
I to have high levels of Zink, iron and copper and can not find the source.
I also understand that correlation does not equal causation.
Thanks.
