So I'm about to pull the trigger on a maxspect gyre xf230. I know I want this pump, just unsure of how I'm going to control it. I like the idea of the new controller it comes with, but I paid a lot of money (for me) on my neptune apex classic. I would like to get all the use I can out of it. With that being said, I'm hoping my thinking is right. There aren't a lot of articles on this so I'll make it brief.

My plan,

1. Buy a single xf230 gyre without a controller, or power supply.
2. Buy an icecap interface module (so my apex can talk to the gyre).
3. Buy a power supply for the gyre.

Step 3 is where I need some advice. The "official" power supply is 40 dollars!! And it doesn't even come with a power cord  Here is the link: http://www.coralvue.com/maxspect-gyre-power-supply

My question: Can I buy a cheaper, universal power supply for the 230 gyre instead of the official? Here is a link of what I THINK will work. I would appreciate it either way if someone would let me know if I am wrong, or right in thinking this would work! Thanks! :D

This is a good question. Pretty sure youll just need the ice cap.

I got it on amazon. Says it's currently unavailable but any power supply with the same specs should work.
