Maxspect gyre with off center overflow box

I am wanting to get a maxspect gyre, but I have an off center overflow box. Can I place the gyre horizontally and not get a bug dead zone area where the overflow would block the flow? Thanks!

Im gonna follow along, i have a corner 90 im starting to build and i have the same question. Otherwise i think it would just flow right into the overflow and defuse.

I'm not sure I understand your example – a pic or drawing would help – but if I do understand you correctly, and you run flow perpendicular to a standard "reef ready" drain box, I would be ready for at least some minor dead spots. You'll have to get things set up and running to see exactly what happens though. (I don't get how "off-center" fits in though, so I may be completely off base.)

In seriousness, I would check out a Tunze Turbelle® stream 3 (five year warranty!) with the idea of hiding it anywhere in that back corner you want – out of sight.

With a smart rock setup, you won't need much more than a Stream 3 – but you'll always need more than one pump, IMO.

Probably an additional one or more 6040, 6045, 6055 and/or 6095 will be called for. And/or maybe even one or more of their smaller pumps, depending on the exact situation after setup.

A single Stream 3 would be a fine place to start though...as would 2-4 of any of the pumps in this list of pumps. No need to add everything at the beginning.

I run a vertical one and will say the flow is a lot more less dramatic. I supplemented with an mp40 until i finally bought another gyre and run that one horizontal.I can take pics if this helps

I would love to see a vertical set up. Im planing a self type aqa scape and really had good feeling about the gyre flow being able to eliminate dead spots in the underlying areas.

It is held in place with magnets that are aquarium grade mounted behind the overflow .

I don't think it will matter if it is off center or not....if it is an internal anywhere on the back wall, it will block the flow a little bit. I run mine horizontally with a center overflow.....the unit itself is so long that there is enough flow that makes it around the box that it hardly makes a difference.

I have 2, 250 gyres at each end of a 180. I also have the overflow offset . It "appears" to affect flow pattern a little. I'm not sure yet still adding the aqua scape. I did move the gyre closest to the box forward of center a bit to see how that would change.
