Maxspect Gyre XF250 weird flow after cleaning

Hey guys, so I took my gyre apart and cleaned it and put it back together. Now I’m noticing the flow pattern is weird. There’s no longer a gyre because it’s pushing water out across towards the bottom of the tank as well as across the top. I don’t feel like it used to do this unless I am remembering wrong? Can anyone tell what I may have done wrong when putting it back together that could have caused this?

So one side is pushing water towards the top and the other is pushing water towards the bottom? Were the paddles installed correctly?

The most likely cause, if I remember right, is that you crossed up the right and left sides. I believe it is also possible you installed them in reverse.

Nope, both sides are pushing out of those two grated exits.

I think I need to take it apart and check then. The propellers just need to be facing the same way right?

I wish I could remember. I ran into a similar issue the last time I cleaned mine. I know I had them on wrong, I can't recall how I identified which one goes where.
 
Make sure that the two impellers are pushing water in the correct same direction, whether clockwise or counterclockwise. Easy to tell from the curvature of the blades, but they're also labelled A & B. Then make sure that the A flow cage is installed over the A impeller, and B over B. Turn the flow cages until they're lined up with what you want.
 
The cages do spin, takes a little force but you can move them.
 
Mine have either an "A" or "B" molded into them on the ends. Make sure you have both "A"s and or both "B"s together, and make sure you rotate the cages to direct the water in the direction you want. I usually hold my hand in front of them to make sure they are pointed in the right direction.
The cages on mine are hard to rotate and I have to take it off the glass and use both hands to do it.
You can download the manual from the website and it will explain all the different water flows if you don't have it anymore.
 
Need help gyre owners!!

Trying to clean my pump and remove those plastic caps for the rotors, I accidnetally broke the ceramic stick in half within the motor housing.

To top it off, I cannot use pliers to pull the motor housing out. The teeth seem to not get enough grip. Ive also saoked it in vinegar solution for 5 hrs now.

I have all the spare parts that came with the packaging and watched too many coral vue videos that my brain hurts.

Is this gyre broken for good? At the very least, I probably need to order another motor?

Can you use a small drill bit to drill it out a little and put a screw into the drilled hole? If so you may be able to pull it out?
 
Although they look the same, only one of the wheel-shaped endpieces comes off the motor housing to remove the impeller. Take a needle nose pliers and grab one of the spokes, then turn and pull. If it doesn't come loose, try the other one. At the very least, you'll need a new impeller (not sure if they sell them separately though.)

Should side A or side B come out? Side A is to the left, when looking at the label "Maxspect" on the center housing.
 
Everything I would have suggested was already covered :) Only thing I can second and third is to make sure you have the paddles and covers matched. Also the covers - make sure you have them aligned proper. I use the center text (Maxspect gyre engrave marking) on the mother and align the cages with it for better intake and exit flow.

Honestly I don't recall. I don't pull this apart routinely due to the difficulty in doing so. I did it once, found that the magnet and ceramic rods weren't dirty at all, and thereafter have just soaked the entire motor housing assembly in vinegar, rinsed well in rodi and reassembled. I have two newer gyres now on a different tank. I'll probably only try to pull the motors of those apart if I noticed either a complete stoppage or a significant reduction in flow that persisted after the acid bath.

Also agree with @saf1 's comment about carefully matching and aligning the parts, and then I suggest also testing the whole thing and making any final adjustment to cage/cover positions with it running in tank.

I found this to be the case also. I soak them in vinegar for an hour, give them a quick rinse, and back in the tank. Has worked very well.
