Hi there community! This is my first post here on reef2reef!
I’m excited to join this group and would like to ask you about the best light setup for my Maxspect Jump 165.

My light is 8 1/2 inches above water level. (Cannot put higher).
I don’t have a PAR meter so it’s impossible for me to calculate how much is needed.
perhaps you guys have more experience and can give me an advice about the setup for a Tank of 13.5 Galons (Fluval Evo 13.5) with some softs, los and sps.
I’m looking for best values for each channel and how many hours (peak, ramp, etc.)
I look forward for your opinions!

Honestly, the only way short of "best guess" is an actual PAR meter to take readings. Usually a good starting point is 40-50% intensity, though.
I was hopping someone had the same model and a similar tank that could share his experience.

I recently bought a MaxSpect Jump 165 to replace the stock light that came with my Fluval Evo 13.5

I did this upgrade because I wanted to grow some LPS’s and SPS’s in my tank and the stock light was to weak and limited.

I wanted to buy the AI 16 HD prime, but it was a bit overpriced for my wallet and ai found the Maxspect oportunity for half of the price of the 16HD prime.

I did some research on how to proper setup this lights but the information available online was too confusing with the few users I found running quite different setups.

I decided to run a 80-80-80-23-23-23 (UV+Violet / Blue / Royal blue+Cold whites/ Green/ Yellow white/Red) during 2 months with 20 days in the aclimation mode.

Since then I started to have problems I haven’t before: green and brown algae, diatomaceas, cyano bacterias and lost my first coral (a red chalice), while all other corals are not as they used to be.

I tried to read all about lights to try to do a new setup to fix the problems, but every light has its particularities and there’s not much on the Maxspect Jump 165. Some say dun te automatic mode (but 75-75-75-75-75-75) doesn’t make sense as they open the blues as much as the reds, greens and yellow white for example) I don’t know why Maxspect did this as we all know corals don’t need that much red and besides algaes and other problem will star to spawn with this reds. (I don’t know why light manufacturers bother to put red leds on their lamps if it’s not advisable to turn on them). I also saw other people messing with different setups, ramp times, etc, but seems there’s not a common opinion and some for sure will get their spectrum wrong.

So I was hopping that I could have an explanation on how this lights is best setup for my reef coral without having too much light or little , right spectrum and choose the amount power for each channel and finally ramp times, peak duration and total time.

I thank you in advance for your time to try help me on this desperation question.

Kind regards,

Carlos

You've been experiencing the same issues that I have. It doesn't seem like a lot of people really run this light, or there are and most are tight lipped with their settings.

I ended up finding this on Google, and it's done well for me over the past 6 months, though I have it 27 ¹/² inches over ky sandbed with 18 ¹/⁴ inches of water between the two. So you may want to start with lower peak uv+violet and blue values. Maybe 45% and then adjust the rb+cw and ww values down to preference. The photo period can be adjusted to your schedule of course. I think 80% on your blues may just have been too much for your hight/water depth.

Hopefully others will chime in with better info, because I'm no expert in any sense of the word.

I just realized I forgot to post screenshots of the actual settings.

Hi
Is this light on an Evo? I have just bought a Jump LED for mine but struggling to get the light central in the tank and not sagging down because of the weight of the light. Have you still got this setup? Are you able to share any more pictures from different angles?
