Was thinking of purchasing a gyre pump and would like to mount it on the back wall of my AIO. This would however leave the "outside magnet" submerged. Wondering if this is possible or is the magnet not sealed for this application.

Thanks!

I've had one submerged for over two years...it's inside my overflow box on the wall side of a peninsula. I actually called Maxpect (CoralVue) to ask this specific question and was insured it was sealed and would be fine. It has been so far!!!

Perfect, just the answer I was looking for,

Thanks DBL!

That's what they all say. :)

I believe that it's confirmed by the company reps that the magnet is waterproof.

Lol. Please do NOT do this.

What’s issue do you think it would cause? I may be missing something but I was just thinking it’s added protection to keep the magnet from leaching if it’s not 100% water proof.

I guess it's a good idea after all! Lol. I see nothing wrong with it and since there's no reply back from cromag27 I'd assume there's not a good reason to not try it. To me it sounded like a great idea.

For all and just an FYI. I went back to my build thread and found this picture I posted on 11/1/2015. It had been in my tank for several months prior. The magnet is still in the overflow box (obviously submerged) and is doing just fine!

Thanks everyone! I'm going to put mine in my overflow now. Did anyone end up putting it in a ziplock bag? I'm considering doing this... Mostly just to preserve the sticker on the magnet.
