Maxspect r420r 180 watts enough for a 90???

Ok...so I just came across someone local to me selling this unit for pretty cheap and I'm still planning for my 90(standard size) mixed reef. Will that be enough for a 90? The fixture is only 27" long....would that cove the whole tank?

There are different K temp lights but PAR should be similar..

No, it will not cover your 90...i´ve the exact same one in a 55 long and it was dim on the sides, put the 120 reflectors on it and it helped, but had to add an Orphek 90 BAR to have complete coverage

Shows light pattern and intensity in a 40" x 24" area and 2 different heights..

You can make it cover the full 48" but w/ loss of PAR and more spill outside in the f/back range..
All this is goal dependent..


31.4 x 23.6 w/ 100-200Par @ 24" height... Green chart
Getting to 48" and being functional is dependent on design and species..

Point is if it works depends........................

Changing beam angle or raising the light is fairly functionally equivalent..
CERTAINLY not ideal...
40B-ish seems more of a sweet spot as to dimensions..
