Hello All,
I have a problem that I am hoping someone can help me figure out.
I am new the the hobby and is setting up a 90G reef tank that has a center bar. I just received 2 Maxspect Razor LED (120 W, 20.5 inches long). The problem I am having is that I cannot mount both of them onto the tank. The legs are too long. The tank has a canopy with about 5 inches high. Any suggestions on how i can rig something to house the lights inside the canopy? I do not want to suspend the lights for the ceiling as that would require the top to be open and I do not want to temp my 5 yr old son or his playmates to through anything into the tank if I am not around.
I reckon I am not the first person with this problem.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Milton

Lay acrylic rods across the top of the tank and then set the lights on the rods. Just be care full of water motion so you don't get them wet.

You might be able to retrofit some t5 fixture legs on it but not sure, I would do the rods as I suggested above, since its in a canopy, who cares how it looks, and its easy to move and get into the tank. You can secure the rods to the tank rim with "museum putty/picture putty".

thanks for the tips. I will look into the rods across the top of the tank. I am worried about securing them. last thing i want is to have thelight fall into the tank.

use the wire suspension kit mounts (that screw into top of unit) included with the light. Find screws with the same thread pattern as the hanging kit. Drill holes through canopy and mount light to top, inside of canopy.

Nice idea! would i not have to leave a few inches between the top of the light and the canopy for ventilation?

You could cut some holes or slits in the top of canopy and even put CPU fans inside the holes to push hot air out.
