Hi all,

Can anybody identify the specifications of these unmarked coils that are in my Maxspect Razor? As you can see, one of the coils is burnt and cracked (the brown one). I can easy replace them but I have no idea what the values are. At the same time I've already submitted a ticket with CoralVu so see if they help with a replacement but I'm outside the warranty period.

I'm actually starting to get really disappointment with the quality of Maxspect products (from premature burnt led diodes in my G2, both my xf150 rotor need to be replace after one year of use, premature burnt led in my Razors and now a potential fire hazard with these overheated coils.)

Thanks

So you were not able to replace the coil? Kinda of suck to replace the entire board when a coil is less than 1$. I've seen some that may be a replacement on ebay but I wanted to know if someone knew the exact values of that coil or how much I can diverge i.e. can I use a coil with 18 turns instead of 22 turns.

I've read a few threads with the same problem, which is really scary because it's a fire hazard if you got the units built with the faulty coils!

IMO, there should have been a voluntary recall from Maxspect because of the inherit fire hazard of these overheating Toroid coils.

Like my mac book. ig you contact them with the problem I bet they replace it for free. Took me 2 years with the mac book because it was hidden and not mentioned pretty much anywhere. I told them the date and model and suddenly a $1000 repair was done for free in 15min.

I don't really solder, so I didn't even consider that. Good idea though! $1 is a lot cheaper than (80 x $1) if you're able to do the deed. ;) I was glad that it was plug and play at least.

It's called a driver board and they will most likely replace it for free. They will ship you a new driver and it's plug and play, super easy to replace

That's a toroidal inductor and no you cannot replace with just any size. You should be able to match up the number of turns and ask a manufacture based so on dimensions you may be able to get a replacement. But if it is burning they may be undersized best to ask the manufacture about that. I have attached a chart that may help you.

Update:

-I've contacted Maxspect to see if they would tell me the specs but unfortunately they will not release that information to the public.

Thank for the table Midknightdkie, but the problem with toroid coils is that you have no idea what the coil is made of and worst the color is not standardizes either.

Getting a new board would be great BUT I also like fixing thing :) The rest of the board is still good and replacing the two coils would take me less than 2 minutes to do (just like reflowing the Maxspect Razor LED pads to replace a burnt LEDS instead of buying an entire new LED pad)

A color code for these exist but not all manufactures follow the color code or even color them at all. You could remove the working coil from the circuit and do an inductance test. Or you can measure the size at its largest points and match it. See the link below you should find it useful.

Update 2
CoralVu could not help since I'm from Canada and they suggested I contact my Canadian Maxspect distributor (Distribupet Inc). To my surprise, I'm getting a replacement board and plastic end for wopper of a price .................FREE!!!! Thanks Distribupet Inc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Though I'm getting a new board, I'm still trying to find a suitable toroid coil replacement. Why......why not. The rest of the board is still good so why waste a perfectly good board.

So far, thanks to Midknightdkie, I've narrow down the original yellow coil as a T68-10 (22 turns) with the coil composed of iron powder (Carbonyl SF) whereas the new black coils may be made of Iron powder Carbonyl W (same 22 turns).

btw, My faith in Maxspect has been restored :)

The unit was two years old so way out of warranty.

IMO, if you have these yellow coils, it shouldn't be a warranty issue but a safety issue and Maxspect should replace these boards for free. For example when I took temp reading on the yellow coils they were running at around 120 degrees Celsius when the unit was on max! In comparison to the black coils that ran at around 45 degree Celsius. That's why the plastic ends were melting/burning!

Glad I could help, I would like to see how this works out for you as I'm sure there are or maybe others that can use this as a guide later.
