I have a 320w Razor over my 120g short (48x24x24). There's only a couple inches on each side of the fixture to the end of my glass. I'd like to replace the end 120 lenses with 90's. The guy at the LFS said I was crazy, first time he'd ever hear someone preferring the 90's.

Am I crazy? I don't think I need the 120 spread right on the ends of my tank and wouldn't mind making the light a little more concentrated there.

Not crazy at all. It's your tank and no one knows it better than you. You can always change back to the other optics if it doesn't work out how you want.

Thanks!

I was also hoping I could get an opinion on whether it would make a big enough difference to make it worth doing. As my tank fills up with more corals, the sides of the tank seem to be the only places I have room for new frags currently... if it wont provide a big difference in lighting to the frags on the substrate at the sides of the tank, it might be pointless.

He said if I wanted he'd swap for a set of 90's for free (LFS guy wants the 120's for the older razors on the tanks at the store). But I think I may just order a set, if I want to go back in the future.

Me personally, I would keep all the lenses the same. I had a razor and had to dim it some when I ran the 90s. With the 120s I ran it 100%. You're going to have hot spots or dim spots if you start mixing lenses which just complicates things. For my tanks I want high light and as even spread/coverage as possible.
