I'm starting a new tank and am going to try my hand at coral. I'm torn between these to companies. I would love to hear some input. Anyone one with person experience please comment. Thanks.

Depends on what coral you want to keep. I asked the guys at coralvue if one razor would be sufficient for sps in a 24 x 24 x 12 high and they said I needed two razors! If your going for less light demanding corals a razor will do(maybe two) but the Vega will take care of any corals you want to keep. Actually if I switch back to led I am definitely going with a Vega or mazzara p myself.:D

Same goes for the mazzara p, they recommended two for my 24" wide tank for sps. One would do fir less light demanding corals. These maxspect recommendations came from the guys at coral vue.

The guys at Maxspect will tell you themselves that the p series is their flagship line and the best light to keep SPS. The vega will probably win due to its popularity, but I have had great success growing all kinds of SPS and chalices, etc for over a year now with the Mazarra P series. I have two over a 3' span but they are right it is better if you have one per foot.

I have two of the Maxspect Razors 10k, great lights that incorporate the latest CREE XT-E led's. Good for ANY type of coral you choose to keep (sps, lps & softies). Highly recommend!

I've got the 27in 16k Razor. The first unit I received was faulty and he overnighted me a replacement. It's an AWESOME fixture backed by an amazing company!

I have the Mazarra P-Series. I love them. I am able to grow any corals that I want in my 55 with 2 fixtures. The LED chips are very easy to replace and experiment with different colors.

It's almost not fair to compare the P series. We're talking what is to me anyways a massively different price range.

So the basically the maxspect by a landslide? My problem is my tank is 72x24x28. I would like to have rocks on both ends while leaving the middle relatively open. Can I just light the areas where the corals will be and have the rest lit by something not so hardcore?

I've heard of quite a few using the Maxspects to light your primary growth area and the using something like a kessil A150 to light the rest. This all depends on your budget of course.

28 is pretty deep, not sure if razor will do that well that deep, your thinking about getting the mazzara right?

I had mine tested with a par meter, yes pars not everything, but mine tested at 300par at 24in.

You would be surprised what the Razors are capable of, friend of mine has a 28" deep covered with razors, and holding beautiful SPS's and they have just flourished! Mazzara have a few more bells and whistles, but prob not worth the extra money. Not saying they're bad lights, just maybe not neccessary.

*mazzara. I still have a few weeks before I have to worry about the lights really. I'm just trying to do as much research as I can. I do appreciate everyone's input and help so far.

You'll be dishing out a lot more moolah for them, only 60w per unit, have to get multiple ones
