Maxspect vs. Icecap Gyres.

The Icecap says it can be mounted vertically, which would give me more options. A couple quick searched reveal plenty of people mounting maxspects vertically as well. I guess I may reconsider after all.

Does the ICV6 replace the advanced controller, or is it in addition to? I was going to buy the bundle, but if the ICV6 controler replaces the standard controller it is more cost effective to forgo the advanced controller bundle and buy the pumps and ICV6 separately.

Both brands can be mounted vertically or horizontally. For the Maxspect, you're still going to need the regular controller to power the pump(s). The IVC6 is an add-on but it doesn't need to be be placed next to the tank. You could put it in another room if you wanted less clutter around the tank.

Awesome, thanks!

Last question, I promise... For a 135gal, 72"x18"x25" would you use the 330s or 350s? Seems that either will give me the flow I need, but would I have to crank the 330s up to the point that they become audible?

The latest generation of Maxspect Gyres receives pretty favorable reviews in terms of "quietness." I would have said 330s, but that's a pretty long tank. Unfortunately, you can't hook up one of each to the Maxspect controller. You could with a WaveEngine.

“Smart Control
All of the Gyre 300 series pumps are compatible with the Maxspect Connect ICV6 control module so you can wirelessly control your pumps using the free Syna-G app from Maxspect. Any combination of pumps can be connected and controlled which means you can now operate a Gyre XF330 and an XF350 using the same control module all with a single power supply. This helps you to tailor the flow inside your aquarium perfectly to suit the needs of your corals without a ton of wires and bulky power supplies under your tank.”

Yikes! Forgive me and my bad info! ;Bucktooth

So your recommendation would be one of each?

Two XF350 you're looking at 10,560 GPH of flow for $520.

With the XF330 and XF350 pair, you're at 7,630 GPH of flow for $470, savings of $50.

Either option lets you run 2 pumps on a single controller and power supply, which is nice.

The XF330 is almost 2 1/2" smaller than the XF350, so that may be something to consider depending on how and where you're placing the pumps.

I think the price difference is negligible, so with that in mind two of the XF350 pumps make it an easier pill to swallow. You get a lot more flow for not a lot more money and you can dial them back so they're not running full-bore.

It's good to have options. :)

Ordering today. I really appreciate the feedback. Just a couple days before this thread I actually ordered one of your 36XL sumps. Haven't even received it yet, but it's reassuring to find that it's coming from a company that is available and eager to help customers. I'll be a customer again for sure.

Always happy to help. Having these conversations help us learn and build better stuff. It helps us learn more about our products, the people, and the ways in which they use them.

We all wear many hats here. But one of the most rewarding to don is the customer service cap!

There are never enough hours in the day to accomplish it all, but everyone here agrees that responding to customer questions quickly is at the top of the list. Nobody wants to buy stuff from a company that doesn't get back to customers. Not in this day and age!
