Hey All,

Just set up my Maxspect XF130 (brand new, bought it back in 2015 and never set it up).

I've been searching online, in the instruction manual, etc. but I can't find anything about this problem. My right impeller is pushing water out the top, and getting water input from the bottom. The left one is the complete opposite.

I tried all the different settings, and can't get it to go the same direction.

I started wondering, is this how it's supposed to work? How come nobody mentions this? The instructions / photos on the box all show the flow coming out the top. I even watched BRS videos and their flow seem to always be coming from the top as well.

Please help!

Coralvue.com has good info with videos. Make sure 1 A and 1 B impeller are installed. If you have both the same letter impellers its for alternating gyre (One side forward flow and 1 side reverse flow)

Yeah, there's one A and one B. The A is the one running backwards.

Just to confirm, this is not how it should work right? At least out of the box.

Submitted a ticket with CoralVue. I don't have any livestock and the tank is still cycling, so no big deal for now. Hope I can get it resolved at some point. I guess it's interesting to have the flow like this?

you can change one of the inserts. The one you are talking about A and B are only the grill. Check the inserts inside if they have the same orientation. They come with extra inserts.

Oh interesting. I didn't think about the actual inserts being wrong. I'll have to check in the morning.

It did come with two extra ones. Hopefully I'll figure it out! At least the pump isn't so loud today (and is pretty dang near silent). Yesterday it was incredibly loud.

OK, so I pulled the pump out, and removed the impellers, sure enough, they are opposite of each other, instead of the same direction. the extra ones they gave me were also the same. So despite the "cages" having the right letter, the impeller can be swapped out. So I guess they had just shipped me one with the wrong one installed, unless they intentionally want you to run them opposite.

Anyway, got it all figured out and works great now. I kicked up some sand and turned up the flow, definitely a gyre happening now!
