Hello community.
I am setting up a redsea 425xl. Just filled it up with water. Haven’t cycled it yet. I added a couple of xf330 gyre pumps. While they move a lot of water there is this contact groan - revving motor sound. I can hear it revving up and down as it changes speed based on the pattern. Right now the max is set to 40% and the sound gets worse if I increase the %.
Is this normal? Anything I can do to reduce the noise. I like the pumps but my tank is in my home office and the contrast sound is annoying. If this is normal, any recomendations for the quietest powerheads?
Cheers.

I have the same problem with mine. I did notice that if you change the model to the 350 in the controller the hum goes away but i dont know what if anything that does to the pump itself. Have been thinking about changing mine out to something else since my setup is in my bedroom.

@fowler279 how do you change the model number in the controller?
And yes, I will probably be changing these unless I find a solution. It like listening to small RC cars all day :)

found it in the app. Just tried it. it does remove the noise but it also reduces the flow by a lot. hmm maybe xf350 would be a better bet. just run them at lower speeds? but that's wasting money on a pump you can't use.

I have been doing research into gyres for a few days now and have gleaned from “credible” sources and a ton of anecdotal info, that the Red Sea Reef Wave is the better unit, in terms of easier and less maintenance, noise and that the controller is far, far simpler to navigate. Less expensive than Maxspect also.
