Hey everyone want some opinions on this...currently have an Icecap 3k Gyre in my tank, it works and is decent, though thinking about upgrading to 2 Maxspects Xf330s and running them on each side of my tank, ramping one up as the other one goes down. Is this a good idea or not?

P.S. its a 120 gal tank (4ft length)

I have two gyre pumps in my wb130 gallon (4x2x2). One on each side, mounted along the back wall almost in the corners, flow directed towards the center of the tank (almost parallel to the rear wall). Both are mounted vertically, which works for my tank because I have a pretty open rock layout. Their schedules are almost the same, both ramping up and down over a two-minute cycle. One's cycle is 2 seconds longer than the others - this way I don't need to be super-careful about coordinating things when I turn them on. They will go through being alternating to simultaneous over about an hour or so.
FWIW I get good and random flow throughout my tank with this. Mine are IceCaps too (not an endorsement, just an observation - I've definitely read good things about the Maxspects), and I've been running IceCaps for several years in my FW tank. My current reef tank is only set up since summer, so I can't comment on the long term track record, success, growth, etc.

I have the maxspect xf230s I had one on each side of mywb100.3 but now I just added two mp40s and I put my gyres one vertical along side of the overflow on the back wall and the other on the back wall towards the left corner of the tank vertical plus I have a Nero 5 on the left side back wall
and my flow is perfect all the setting are well under 50 percent but the flow is so random
I have both high and low chaotic flow in my mixed reef every one is happy
plus the tank looks so much better and cleaner With the gyres and the Nero on the back wall

I just got a pair of 350's. Does anyone else still have the issue where they suck in air? I can't get them to quit even with the flow attachments.

I’d get the 350s. Only a little more money and you may want the extra flow at some point. You can always turn them down and let them not run so hard which I assume may make them last longer. I have two 350s on my 210g and wish I had more flow.

how close to the surface do you have them mounted? Mine are about 3”-4” down and I don’t have any problem.
