I have some, not many aptaisia in my rock. I am getting ready to move some coral and fish to my 180g in a few weeks. My rock is just over a year old. Was thinking of doing a brief soak in vinegar to kill any aptaisia, rinsing and then putting it back in my 150. I don’t think it would hurt anything besides aptaisia would it?

Actually is would cause a certain amount of die off because a dip is not going to do much to aiptasia so it would have to be a bath and it will drive down the pH if enough is re-introduced with the rock. I would just take it out and dry it and rinse it do a small section of the rock at a time.

It won’t kill the aptasia. Also vinegar is used in carbon dosing. You could get a bit of a bacteria bloom if not rinsed well.

I would opt to put it in a small bin with tank water , let the aptasia come out then nuke em with kalk paste or a screwdriver. Then rinse the rock.

Really? When I invest vinegar at them in tank it Kill’s them instantly. I would think a dip would to. That’s what I was wondering about effect on tank. I only see one right now but problems more.

I would inject them in the bin.
Vinegar is an acid. So it burns the soft tissues inside. I’m skeptical it would do anything just on the skins.

The vinegar would also be soaked into the rock.

Hey Salty. Just found out h. Peroxide kills them. I have 7% peroxide. I think it would be safe to dip in pure peroxide and then rinse twice. Thoughts?

I honestly don’t know. I’ve never seen it done truthfully.

Going to try it in a few weeks after the 180 cycles. I will post results. Thanks for reply!

Aiptasia can survive a nuclear war. There is no dip that will kill them and not kill the "live" rock. They must be treated directly or with a natural predator.

They will come back.

Find a consumer(s). Peppermints from the Florida Keys (make sure that you know you got them from there) and butterfly fish are good options. This is the only long-term solution.
