1.) What features of the Mazarra are most important to you?
Scalability of emitted light in patterns most representational of a true dawn/dusk cycle; looks - modular design, mounting options; upgrade-ability; cooling
2.) What features would you like to see added to the Mazarra?
Having not had the luxury of play-testing or even really seeing one in person, I have read many reviews about them. So based on the most common complaint - it would be to upgrade the mounting hardware - removing all plastic components and replacing with aluminum or stainless, including any extension hardware and the ball/socket mount. I have thought on this for awhile previous to this giveaway contest or whatever and decided (after researching what I could) that if I purchased this package I would do all I could to secure the modules as best as they could be - throwing out any plastic and replacing with stainless or Ti and even using monoball tripod heads used in photography to replace the mounts if not up to snuff. But like I said - I haven't even gotten my grubby mitts on a setup (or saved enough to do it yet). Besides, like a lot of reefers I am cheap as (insert word for poop) and build most of my equipment from raw materials - except for pumps of course - so a real live manufactured LED package would be a (insert expletive) dream...
3.) What mounting option would work best with you aquarium setup?
Suspension, though a back wall mount would serve a great purpose especially if it were hinged to raise easily out of the way.
4.) What color option would be most desirable for your setup?
It would be cool to see them in an array of automotive finishes, but due to cost constraints of that, I would have to say black because it would seem the most unobtrusive since my lights are visible and the modules are darn good-lookin'. If I had a fish room (where the lighting was concealed from view) it would be white all the way.
5.) What other manufacturer of LED lighting systems are you considering, if any?
I actually went to a demonstration of the EcoTech Radions recently and was very impressed with the color rendition and wireless connectivity between lights and Vortechs, but a wavemaker or timer and Koralias would do just fine without having to shuck out as much as the lighting for water movement. Otherwise I have looked very closely at the Orphek and AI Sol fixtures, though they do not seem to be keeping pace with progression in the LED industry (or yet, to be fair).
6.) What is your current lighting setup?
2 x 250 watt 15000k XMs in DIY Lumenarc III minis (which came out perfect, by the way - no hotspots), Lumatek ballasts and 64 watts of DIY supplemental LED lighting (for a dusk/dawn and moonlights) - all hung in a DIY poplar and black anodized aluminum pendant with a flange to focus light directly into the tank only - it came out nice, but the heat gets out of control...
