So my McCoskers wrasse took a trip to my sump. My overflow is a 1.5" pipe that drops 3.5 feet down to a tee that is split between the skimmer chamber and fuge section. He took the path to the skimmer which has a y that splits to the dual sock holder.

He had been missing for a day, I hadn't been able to check the overflow yet, when I was done with a water change and had the stand doors open when I head a flop and splash. He had landed in a mesh sock.

In hindsight, I probably should have stuck him in the fuge, but since I already had him in the sock I just removed the sock and put him back in the display. He had what looked like a white film on the front of his body. I guess it's possible he was in the drain pipe while I was doing the water change and dried out a little?

He was staying at the water surface, immediately after putting him back, thought may swim bladder type problem, but was able to get away from me and swim down behind some rocks. He stayed hidden rest of the night.

Yesterday he came out late afternoon and stayed in the upper corner, took some food, but looks like he is using his pectoral fins more than normal. Looks like a hummingbird.

Today, much the same. Will eat, bit looks stressed. I think I have on seen him turn to the left when swimming, as well.

I am thinking spine or neuro injury from the trip down the pipes. But, would like some other opinions..

Will attach video shortly.

Can see the "hummingbird flapping", maybe he always did this but never sat still long enough for me to see..

I had a blenny take a water slide ride down to my sump. :p He was in a filter sock for three weeks, which tells you how long I go in-between changing them.

To make matters worse, I took the filter sock outside to clean it out, and he jumped out and down onto the concrete (didn't realize he was in there.)

I also made the mistake of putting him right back in the DT. He was white looking for a couple of days and swimming erratically (like your wrasse), but in time he made a complete recovery. Although it probably wouldn't hurt to put your wrasse in the fuge if he's getting picked on or looks to be in distress. Or he might benefit from some R&R in a QT dosed with Stress Coat (which contains aloe vera.)

I had just changed the socks but was glad it was there and he didn't hit the bottom of the sump too.

My qt is currently occupied by a couple new fish. of course that's when this would happen.

Luckily, no one is bothering him, and he is eating. I think I'd have to drain the tank to catch him, he has no problem running away from me...

Thanks for the input. I will watch him closely and move him to the fuge if he worsens at all.

Update to say he is out of the corner and swimming around mostly normal. His tail fin is quite beat up so I am keeping an eye on that currently
