Mccoskers wrasse lump

Hello All,

Just noticed this today, the fish is still eating but he is swimming a little odd not using that fin much. Is this a swim bladder issue or is this damage?. I just saw the fish poop a little didn’t know if this was possible constipation or worse.

Pectoral fin problems can be serious with wrasse because they use those fins to swim with. It isn’t a swim bladder issue as that organ is up under the fish’s back.

Could it have been damaged by another fish?
How long has it been like this?
How long have you had the fish?

It’s only been like this today, I’ve had it for a week. It was qt’d by the store.

Quarantine is great and looks like an abcess which may stem from an iternal issue or as stated by Jay- a bite or injury.
In QT, I would treat with seachem Kanaplex and Metroplex (added to food at 5000ml)
Add aeration during treatment and monitor ammonia level with reliable test kit

I do have a Midas blebby

Sorry about this haha, I have a Midas blenny that is a bit of a jerk at times.

Focus will help bind it to the foods. Food does not treat but the metro on the food will work internally

so pretty much mix up food with kanaplex and metroplex 5000ml with focus. How would you go about dosing 5000ml (5 litre) sounds like a lot to my novice self.

Metroplex, not Kanaplex. Kanaplex is an external treatment

Given the rapid onset, I’m really focused on this being an injury. If not infected, mechanical damage either heals on its own, or not (if it’s really serious). If the fish is eating well, and no sign of redness/white growths, you might want to just observe it - but of course, that Midas blenny is still there and could be the culprit.

hey Jay, I’ve been observing the fin, he is using it a little more but I did get a much better picture. There seems to be like a pimple like bump on it.

If the swelling is less (and not because it popped) that is a good sign.

Looks like a post injury which may have gotten infected and developed what seems like an abcess. Water quality is first recourse as will be good diet. Adding vitamins generally helps resist such occurences. Not Lympho and as long above is performed, should continue to subside. Jay hads the proper recommendation listed above

@vetteguy53081 I was mixing garlic power and selcon with a mix of different foods but mainly rods. Anything else you recommend?
