McCosker's wrasse playing hide and seek

5 weeks ago my McCosker's wrasse disappeared. I looked in the overflow and couldn't see him but it's difficult to see to the bottom. The overflow is covered but there is about a 3/8" gap between the screen top and the front opening of the overflow.

Fastforward to last night I was doing some maintanence in the sump and lo and behold there he was. He looked fat and happy. Netted him easily and placed him back in the DT. He immediately hid and after 24 hours I have not seen him again. I've never had a wrasse hide this long, including my Potter's. What's the chance he's still alive and kicking? Kind of attached because I've had him almost 3 years.

Wrasse can hide a long time with any change or stress. I would wait another week or two before worrying much.

My McCoskers wrasse spends about 20% of his time in the overflow. He manages to get himself out and has never ended up in the sump fortunately.

Once a fish finds it's way to a sump, they often find their way back.

Yep from what I've experienced and research I've done it's not uncommon for wrasse to hide for a time n reappear healthy and happy. I love our wrasse and hate when one hides for extended periods of time but always out and healthy when they pop up again.

Yeah! He's back after 8 days. Just appeared this morning like nothing had happened. Thanks for the encouragement all.
