The spec sheet says the dim voltage range is 3.5-8v. If it work using 3.3v, is there any problems with using 3.3v? I can't think off any, but I really have no idea. It would save having to add a level shifter.

Thanks

Chris

It shouldn't cause any damage. I've been running these for a few years with 3.3v PWM without any problem. It's possible that it might miss some cycles and be dimmer than expected, but I haven't experienced that.

With
  • Power ON with dimming: DIM ~ -Vin >3.5 ~ 8VDC or open circuit
  • Power OFF: DIM ~ -Vin < 0.5VDC or short
3.3V should be well above the switching point.

BTW, that's the voltage range only for LDD-700L and lower.

With LDD-1000L and higher you'd anyway be within the specs:
  • Power ON with dimming: DIM ~ -Vin >2.6 ~ 5.5VDC or open circuit
  • Power OFF: DIM ~ -Vin < 0.4VDC or short

FYI.. lower mA LDD-L's do not like 3.3v. Which is why the Bluefish mini can't use them..

300-700mA versions..
Keep in mind the 36V limit as well giving an effective output (per Meanwell) of about 30v for your strings.
Though there is this:
4.Output voltage will always step down by 3 volts from input DC voltage.

Do you know what problems they had when trying? Not turning on at all, inconstantly turning on/off.....

I have tested a few with an ESP32 3.3v and have not noticed any problems, that I can see anyway.

Mine is running fine on a 3v3 PCA 9685 connected to a ESP on 3v3

hmm wait, I used the LDD-H variant not the L
