So...what’s the go-to digital salinity meter/refractometer these days?

I’ve been using a refractometer forever and I’m looking to go digital.

$100-$150 budget

Sorry, can't help...I'm analog in a digital world...lol...I still use a refractometer...

I can only comment on one, which is the Ice Cap Pocket Salinity tester. I don’t think it can be beat for convenience, but it does have a drawback: it cannot be calibrated. I tested it against a calibrated refractometer and determined that it was off by .001. I still kept it because the convenience factor is great. I will verify it against the refractometer once a month, as well as when my salinity tests higher or lower than I expect it to be.

The Milwaukee MA887 can be calibrated and receives pretty good reviews, so you may want to look at that as well.

I was looking at the Milwaukee and the pin point. Just wondering which digital has the best reputation

Thanks for the replies so far

Those are two entirely different methods, and I’d pick the pinpoint for a variety of reasons, including continuous reading during something like acclimation or salt mixing.

I’ll keep my eye out. Is there a particular model number?

I have the 128, but others will work fine too. Just check, if you can, that the probe coming with it is a 4 electrode model, which is better than what is sold for most hobby devices.
