First time question: I understand that the the filter media order is Mechanical, Biological & Chemical. I have a small 20-24 gallon reef tank that is 4 months old that I purchased used. Right now I have a small protein skimmer, then bio media, then activated carbon in that order. Since I have a third (3rd) media tray, would there be any harm or benefit if I put a sponge in the bottom tray? So the order would then be mechanical, biological, chemical and then mechanical, etc. I know it's kind of a weird question. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Benefit: catch the debris your other sponge didnt and possibly clearing the water a little more.

Harm: additional point of restriction when it loads up too much with debris.
