Media basket instead of filter socks

Is anyone using an media basket instead of filter sock?

I have an small nano tank 90 litres with a small underneath sump. Was playing with the idea of running the overflow pipe straight into a media basket. I would have filter floss and poly filter on top level. I would have active carbon and probably some phosgaurd.

Any advice

Should work just fine. As long as the flow isn't to much. Don't want the carbon/PhosGaurd getting ground up. Put the two low down, packed tight.

You're describing an AOI (All In One) tank. I have a JBJ 28 (28 gallons, or for the rest of the world, 106 liters), that can't fit a sock if I wanted one.....and has media basket that has filter floss on the top and whatever you wish to run in the other two chambers.....a total of three chambers. So you're idea sounds just fine. I change out the filter floss weekly.

Get creative with screen, gutter guard, eggcrate, or any other materials you can fashion into a media basket for your sump. Your idea is a good one. Zip ties are your friend.
