Media box

I have a waterbox 20 and upgraded to a media box instead of the filter sock. I have floss on top then chem-pure blue then bio zorb. This causes the water flow to slow through the media box and the water level in the main tank to be near the top. Also, the water in the third chamber where the return pump is, is very low. How do I even this out? I took out some of the media and it balanced for a while but now at end of the day it’s high again. Any suggestions?

So last night I removed the media. This morning I put it back and all my water levels are better equalized. It’s a head scratcher... photos are from this morning
