media: carbon

I started putting carbon in media bag and placing it in my filter sock. the carbon made my sock all black, the 2nd sock still become black (after ~1 wk).
Is this normal? will this continue?

I have mine running in a media bag, but placed in a different location in my sump away from my filter sock.

Yes it will continue but should slow down. I am sure you rinsed the carbon but is impossible to get all the "dust" out in my experance. So that should eventually get washed out but now you have it in the filter sock and that's the most violent part of the tank in terms of water flow so I would not be surprised if it crushes some of the carbon pellets (or grains) creating more "dust". If it is in a filter sock then I would not be to concerned if not relocated it to maybe under the output of your skimmer
