Talking to a friend the other day and got the idea of switching out my filter media for live rock. Any thoughts on this? My tank is a 32 biocube. Got a Fluval FX-4 and Steve’s LEDs on it.

I would strip the FX and fill it with live rock if I did this. Or rock and marine pure balls

Do you have a refugium? You are better off with macro algae with a small strip light than LR. Either way I have both as I started with LR rubble and kept it with Cheato. The nutrients are much more controlled with the macro.

BTW, beautiful tank

First off, thank you for the compliment. It’s a work in progress. I’ve attempted to keep cheato in the back of chamber 2 but everything just melts.

The one issue you have will be debris build up in the rock crevasses and under the rock. I like the idea, but I would put a small pad under the return on top of the rock to catch the large particulates. If you go out of town and don’t want to change the pad then yes just use the rock that week it won’t hurt much.

Do mean inside the canister put something like filter floss?
