Media in HOB Skimmer?

I'm using a Reef Octopus classic 1000 as a HOB skimmer for a 40 gallon breeder. The tank also has an aquaclear 70 modifed to include a mini-refugium, which I want to stop using. Any thoughts on adding media to the skimmer? I saw a youtube video where it was mentioned briefly, but haven't seen anything more. Looks like the place to add anything would be in the black rectangle in the picture. Any thoughts?

Those 100ml bags of Seachem Purigen, may work.

They changed to a long rectangle now. Kinda bummed about that as they used to fit perfect in a Fluval HOB. I think they redesigned them to fit better in their Tidal HOB filters.

Thanks so much! That's a great find. I think the 3" size will fit. Any opinions on keeping the small job filter with chaeto still going?
