I am looking into buying another media reactor for my bio pellets. low maintenance is key!
I currently have a brs reactor for carbon and the Avast spyglass reactor for my pellets. It is known to many that the brs reactor clogs easily/quickly but I had no idea the spyglass design was just as bad in that department. The screen on the spyglass is about the size of a nickel! So that clogs about every few days in my tank.

I’m hoping someone here can point me into the right direction. I’m looking for a low maintenance bio pellet reactor, something easy to break down and clean.

Whats say you R2R?

I guess

I have Reef Octo BR 140 I run off of a manifold. For some reason it has an anti drain back valve in the center of the down tube that would plug every 3 days. Once I removed it it's been okay. The top comes off. I dump the pellets into something. I put some water and muriatic acid in it and swirl it around with my bottle brush. Rinse it and put it back together. It sits in my sump.

I was hoping to avoid removing the media to clean the screens. But I haven’t found a reactor that is easy to clean with the original bio pellet reactor design.

I just installed the lifegaurd medium reactor in my 120 yesterday.
Its a top flow. It replaced my aquamax mini which could not keep up but did well for over 2 years.
The manual says it hold 450ml of media. I added 750ml of phosgaurd to test capacity and it easily holds that much.
I put 500ml phosgaurd and 1 cup of Rox carbon in a nylon bag.
I like this reactor because you can take the pump off without turning the unit off just like the aquamax.
Servicing looks like it will be very simple.
All in all a nice unit for$90.

This could be exactly what I’m looking for. Looks like your able to clean out flow restrictions, without removing the media from the canister.

I dont think their will be many flow restrictions as the flow is pretty strong.
It would be pretty turbulent for gfo, imo.
I prefer phosgaurd as im done with the gfo mess.

Unless your media is in a nylon bag you will have to remove the unit from your sump.

It would not take more than 5 minutes to change the media unless its the gfo mess.
