Do you think there is a need for a media reactor for a mixed reef 230G tank ??

If so what is a good one to buy?

I have always, and always will use carbon in a reactor. They are also good for other medias, like GFO if the need arises.

Their all pretty much the same, BRS makes some decent ones and in a jumbo size for larger tanks.

Thank you for the feedback!

@Bulk Reef Supply did a video a loooong time ago(one of their first videos) about the effectiveness of carbon in a reactor Vs. passively in a bag in the sump. The difference made a believer out out me, and have run it in a reactor ever since.

I am putting together my build and was wondering what would be a good next piece to focus on and i think the media reactor would be. Can i run that with filter socks too ???

I would say the benefit outweighs the cost. These media reactors are relatively cheap compared to most equipment.
i noticed that, thought maybe i was missing something cause most devices this big isnt cheap, comparatively to a calcium reactor of the same size or a skimmer

Im in the process of cycling the tank now. Probably have another 2 weeks or so, is there a "good" time to introduce a media reactor? early, later??

Media reactors are fairly cheap compared to other pieces of equipment. In reality just look at an add on canister of an RO/DI system, pretty much the same thing, and they are relatively cheap also. Not much to them other then some plastic. lol

well the irony is a buddy of mine (engineer) made me a couple reactors many years ago. I am not sure if they work or not but i will take some pictures and post on here and see what folks think

I recommend a reactor at least for carbon. My Nyos can be used for two different types of media.

I mean there isn't much to them...

A cap where water is pushed through an outer canister, then into an inner canister holding the media, that is either pushed up through, or down through the media(depending on media being used), then back out the other side of the cap into your tank. lol

Here are some pics

I think i will start out with carbon and change media if i get a spike somewhere else. Can you run all the media at the same time?

I don’t see why not. I do know you can run carbon and GFO in the same reactor. Just can’t tumble it or the carbon will grind to dust

Yes with the Nyos reactor. Currently I just run carbon as my tank is only 3 months old.

Hi jpbeen,
Is the Nyos noisy? i see it trickles down the side and wondered if it you can hear it?
