Hi reefers was looking for some guidance here.

I’m looking at trying to ditch my aqua clear 110 it just makes too much noise and to many bubbles. Looking at getting an aquamaxx reactor and turning it into an algae reactor. My question is if I get another aquamaxx reactor can I fill half of it with filter sponges and run carbon beneath the sponges to replace the aqua clear media I’m running?
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Ps I can‘T run a sump I don’t have enough space available.

That should be fine. Alternatively, you could try something like a seachem tidal which are very quiet (they have sicce pumps) It shouldn't make that many bubbles as long as you don't run your water level very low and you can adjust the flow.

Would be same as a carbon reactor and will work.

Trying to set it under my display in the cabinet and draw water from above in the display then out of the pump to a media reactor then back up to the display rank. But I can’t get any suction from the pump unless the pump is submerged.

correct those pumps can't be out of water.

So the green is intake from tank. This goes to the pump. Then the yellow comes out of the pump and through the 2 reactors. Then to the red back to the tank. The pump will not draw water from the green line. The only way I can get any water movement is if I submerge the pump in water. But it sucks the water from the bottom of the pump.

Sorry about the jumbled picture I took it all down to troubleshoot because the pump wasn’t drawing water.

The tank it is sitting in is an empty tank no water; just there in case of a water leak.
