Media Reactors

What should I do with my media reactor when I am not running it? Leave the Carbon inside and just unplug it, then plug it back in later? Asking because I am reading that I should run carbon a few weeks at a time.
I have a 125 gallon with alot of soft corals and the carbon helps keep the toxins at bay. I am concerned the stagnant water and carbon and particles inside the pump will go sour in between uses and cause toxins when I restart the reactor pump.

Just run it longer at lower GPH. One of those two little fishes ball valves should do the trick.

I have a small 1 1/4 cup reactor that I run 24/7 in my 120's sump.
Its best not to let it sit in your sump without any flow.
Reducing the flow works like above said too.
