Hi everyone, I know that 90% of this community will tell you that copper is the only way to get rid of Ich but I have been researching alternatives for awhile and came across MEDIC which seem to have a high success rate at killing the decease.

My question is can MEDIC be used as a preventative?

Will it have a negative affect on a fish that doesn't have Ich?

According to their website it is an oxidizing agent, oxidizing agent was experimented on a lot whether it is ozone or bleach or so on. It will help control the parasite and might eradicate few parasites, but till now its not proven scientifically to 100% eradicate all the parasites in water and the ich will still be present. It will for sure help control their amounts thats why symptoms might disappear and give you a false sense that it cured it.

And copper is not the only proven method to eradicate ich, you also have chloroquine phosphate and TTM.

Best of luck :D

Polyp Labs won't tell anyone the ingredients other than "crystallized peroxide salts" and as @aykwm stated, an oxidizing agent is not going to cure ich. Everyone would love a reef safe ich cure we can toss in the DT. I know I would, I'm 10 days away from wrapping up my 2nd 76 day fallow period in the last year.

I'v used it .....hafe my fish we're lost and the other hafe survived, I'm talking fish that were looking covered in white blobs , spots whatever they are called

Had to use 3 times the dose it says on the bottle ,got that info from the net .
Also you use it only when the lights go off

I'v restock my tank since than and never had anymore problems ...and I added a regal tang
So in my eyes it works

Again people have had sucess with oxidizing agents like ozone and bleach, but its not scientifically proven that it does cure it, it might be other factors. Oxidizing agents in general increase oxygen levels in tank and can destroy some pathogens which will reduce overall stress in fish and will show improvement. In a way its similar to adding UV light and saying it cured ich.

I got a spot banded butterfly in from live aquaria and right off the bat not eating, scratching on the side of rock, and some small amount of head shaking. Thought it was flukes so I had done a 6 min fresh water dip followed by two doses of Prazi. Seems like the fish is more energetic N acts as if it's trying to eat but can't actually connect its mouth with the food. Still itching on rock, No visible signs of Ich or anything for that matter so I am wondering if it is an early stage of Ich, hoping MEDIC would work being I am catching it early if in fact it is Ich.

Prazi might supress apetite and might stay the case for few days after treatment, how many days apart between the two doses?

Scratching and flashing usually means parasitic infection but not necessarly ich. Do you notice other synptoms?

i assume you have the fish in qt, i suggest you perform TTM, it will eradicate ich (if any) without any chemicals and my prefered method of treatment in case of ich. You can also try medic, i didnt try it but best of luck with it.

I do have it in QT, wouldn't eat from day one. I tried to give it some time to get use to the tank and get use to human contact, my belief is that it is a wild caught unfortunately so I gave it 4-5 days and it did get use to me but still wasn't eating and there is no visible sign of any decease, just scratching on rock and some head twitching so I did a FWD and dosed the tank that night, 4 days later I did a 50% WC and dosed again immediately with the Prazi. Today I did another 50% WC and added carbon to start removing the Prazi. Those are the only two symptoms it has at this point. If it would eat something I would add kanaplex to the food but it doesn't eat even though it scurries the tank for food, I have tried everything from tigerpods up to clam on the half shell and everything in between. Going to try getting my hands on some live brine tomorrow and if that fails then I will be trying live black worm as a last resort.

Tank transfer method and chloroquine phosphate? I know the TTM but is chloroquine phosphate for bacterial infection or is it a treatment for Ich?

I always thought the was for bacterial

CP treats ich, velvet, and brook.

I also agree, other factors led to the "cure" of ich. Regal tangs can build resistances to ich and do frequently. They can get very infected and then make a huge recovery. Unfortunately, more of them die in ich management than survive, which is unfortunate.

What really happened, most likely, is the fish built their own resistance and the "medicine" was credited with this success.
