Ziggy has been in the tank 4 days now. I have only seen him eat one Mysis shrimp and not sure he even swallowed it. Starting to get concerned. Any advice.

Have you tried seaweed? My lawnmower blennies always loved nibbling TLF SeaVeggies. You could try a 1/4 square of green, folded and wrapped to a small flat rock with an elastic band.

I will definitely give that a shot. Thank you very much for your help!

Ohh! I now know what that is and it’s actually not a blenny or goby and is in fact a dragonet. These are known for not eating and will only eat pods so you need to supply them regularly.

Not sure what a pod is or a good brand. The lfs told me it was blenny. Maybe I should reconsider where I buy fish lol. Love that lil guy though!

Oh man.. these fish are very difficult to keep depending on the size and age of your tank. If you don’t have an established pod population, with a big enough tank to support their large appetites, they won’t thrive and will slowly starve to death :(. You can purchase pods from algae barn or another source. But I would definitely reconsider where you buy fish if your fish store told you that is a blenny. If you love the Lil guy, you might consider rehoming him to someone with more experience in the hobby. But I definitely wouldn’t take it back to that LFS!
What size tank do you have it in and how old is it?

It may be too late, adding pods and him getting them before he starves may be a struggle. I've had to catch them and feed them live brine shrimp. I clip a cool whip bowl in the tank so I can watch them eat. Just something to try while the pods get settled. Most aquarium stores (at least around me) have pods on hand as well as live brine shrimp.

The tank is a Red Sea xl200. And is 2 1/2 months old. I have 2 clowns and a highlighter torch, and some cleaners

Wow! Super embarrassing. I tried to go slow with this tank but obviously did not get good info and certainly will take the hit for not researching more throughly. I will see if the lfs will take him back, even if they won’t give me anything. At least he will HOPEFULLY be taken care of. Thank you so much for your knowledge and advice.

I’m sorry but unless you start researching how to care for and begin supplementing the correct food source immediately, this little fish won’t have a good outlook. I’ve heard someone say once they have to be feed up to 7 times a day. Some people spend a year or more preparing their tanks to have this fish. I’m not trying to sound like I don’t think you are up to the task, I’m just trying to express that they are difficult to care for if you aren’t experienced in doing so. I don’t have first hand knowledge, so I can’t be of more help other than let you know that your fish’s life is in your hands and you need to either provide the needed food source or give it to someone that can. If you want to take on the challenge, I recommend you start a seperate post asking for guidance on caring for this fish, a mandarin dragonet. Post information about your tank and maybe even use the emergency tag, so people know the matter is urgent.

i bought two of these in high school because I thought they were “so pretty”. They didn’t make it long and I never knew why. Nothing to be embarrassed about. You are doing the right thing by taking it back, although I’m nervous given they don’t actually know what they are selling. Either way thanks for putting the fish best interest in mind.

Is a great site to reference fish tank size need and level of difficulty etc. if you see a fish you are interested in you could hop on there and double check. Of course it would help if the store has then labeled by the correct name.

Thank you again for all your help! The LFS was very under and issued a full credit, but most importantly ziggy will be happy and healthy. Lesson learned!

Hope they still have Ziggy when your tank is a year old, you may be able to house her properly then.
