I have a clownfish with what appears to be brooklynella :(

Recommended treatment is a formalin bath.

What meds contain formalin? I don't think I need very much to treat a single animal.

Thanks in advance

Can you post a picture? Metronidazole or chloroquine phosphate are going to be safer treatments than using formalin

Here are two photos (I'm not a good photographer!)

I've got some chloroquine phosphate....better than Formalin?

Thanks,

Brooklynella - a ciliate parasite that lives and reproduces on the fish itself .

A 45 min bath in formalin bath Or a 90 min bath in Ruby Rally provides temporary relief .
Best to move to a sterile tank after treatment to avoid reinfection .

Then you can start CP or Metro. Definitely have metro in food combined with focus .

If nothings available , a 5 min freshwater dip will provide some relief .

Everything I learnt is from humblefish and it actually works as we treated a couple of clowns and saved them with 2 formalin baths separated by 60 hrs between the baths .

Hikari Quick Ich X has 22% formalin Mardel has 37% but check the bottles. The percentage has been changing lately.

Also word of caution - formalin should be in the form of 37% formaldehyde . Not sure if any aquarium product that high strength . I use the lab grade one from amazon .

Beware as it’s a carcinogen and protect yourself first before treating the fish

A lot of people don't like using formalin because of it being a known carcinogen and will recommend a ruby reef really bath instead before treating with metro or cp

Got to be honest, I have a bottle of Formalin that just sits there. Just too nasty to deal with. And the potential for shortening the fish's life through kidney and nervous system damage is just too great for me. I prefer Ruby Reef Rally. ;)

I have some also and never even opened the bottle after doing more research on it after I bought it
