I ordered a few ORA Tuxedo Urchins from Liveaquaria and in the bag of one of the urchins was a Medusa Worm. I threw it out. These guys can be pretty dangerous to the fish in a reef tank. If you buy ORA urchins, double check their bristles for a medusa worm. I did throw one urchin in that I thought had some detritus in the bristles, now I'm a bit worried that it was a medusa worm.

I’m getting ready to order one of those thanks for the heads up. Do you have a pic of the urchin or worm? Thanks! Are they good size?

I’ll see if the Medusa is still in one piece in a bucket I left outside. The urchins are great, except for the Medusa worm. The urchins ranged from about 1” to 2” diameter.

I thought Medusa worms were just a type of sea cucumber? I have always thought they were neat...especially if you find them with their symbiotic shrimp. How are they dangerous for fish?

edit: Just read up that they have a toxin specific to fish.

Yeah. I thought the same as you. They weren’t really on the pest radar for me.
