So I am setting up my first large tank with a sump and I had bubbles gurgling about every six seconds from my mega flow to sump. I was told to put in a valve to slow my pump rate, and I did, which has now cured the problem. Now I hardly have any flow rate from my pump and very low circulation in the tank. What am I missing here???

Some pictures would help. Unfortantly plumbing a tank isn't a one size fits all.
Others here will give a bunch of different was to solve this issue. But in my experience it's all trial and error. My advice is
1. Make small adjustments, and take time before making another.
2.Try changing water lever of overflow my adjusting your pipes
3. Use a gate valve not a ball valve
4. Try different over flow types. I have used dorso in one tank, and in my current tank had to switch to a hoffer gurgle buster or what ever it's called.
5 some times adding a airline down the over flow and solve some of the issue
