Here goes an open debate question. I was advised to use Melafix for dipping corals from one LFS that I generally trust and was advised from another LFS, which I also generally trust, to never ever touch the stuff. So what are your thoughts/ experiences using this dip? Also, maybe add what dip you use? But please start with your answer regarding Melafix - I got a bottle on my counter that I'm staring at wondering whether to toss it or use it.

Thanks everyone!

I have used it for years and greatly trust it. Just be careful it is strong so don't OD or dip for too long. Also make sure you use the marine as there is a FW too.

I have used it with good success. I think any are good as long as you don't overdose, just look at the different amounts of bayer people use;. Some use as much as 10ml per cup.

I've used it on all coral types. Again, follow the directions and don't overdose.

Alrighty. Thanks folks. Anyone out there have a bad experience with this stuff?

About six years back I was fortunate enough to get ultra acan colonies in wholesale lots. Part of a group buy I arranged for a local club. These things where rainbows to the extream. Every month for three straight I added another 4-6 colonies. Then all of a sudden there was rapid tissue loss I was watching a small fortune melt away. I found a thread about chalacies and the poster was experiencing the same melting but with chalices. At this point I would have peed in the tank if someone said it would help and was able to explain how. a reply to this thread suggested melifex directly in the tank and I tried it. Figured I had nothing else to loose at this point as I tried all other advice. It worked I saved about 30% of that collection. After my first dose I didn't loose another head.
Dosing into the tank ment I had to go skimmerless for darn near a month as this foams like mad and dispute several water changes it took forever to come out...but when you are up against the wall like I was...well worth it

I know this is old but I'm experiencing similar issues at the moment. Did you add directly to display?
