hey gang,
i have an adult sohal and a lieutenant tang in a 40B qt right now. They are 14 days in copper and started prazi about 2 days ago.

The sohal started beating up the Lt tang and he has got some cut up fins so i put a plastic sepperator in there to keep them apart.

Is it ok to add a little melafix to ensure he doesnt get any infections?

They are big fish and water quality depleates rapidly.. i want to get them out soon but want at least another week of copper.

thoughts?

The o2 will deplete faster with all the meds added together.

Melafix has cajeput oil, which doesn't have a whole lot of evidence in its use as an antibiotic or antiseptic so I would just skip it and be ready to treat with broad spectrum antibiotics if an infection starts to show.

If you can hold off an prazi I would. Nothing says bacterial bloom faster than mixing prazi with nearly any med (unless you meant general cure)

I have no experience with melafix but I agree with this statement. It's always a good idea to have antibiotics on hand. The preferred are the trifecta of kanaplex, metroplex, and furan-2 OR NFG powder.

It has been well estsblished in the scientific literature that tea tree oil is an effective antiseptic. I have used melafix in the past very successfully to reverse and prevent infection from wounds.

I would be using it profilatically in this case to prevent infection. I would think it would be way milder than a trifecta of broad spectrum antibiotics. That is just a thought though.
