Hi everybody! I have a melanarus wrasse i got from a coworker. He has had it for a few years and since he is taking his tank down, I now have it. I have been reading up on wrasse qt but and have been having a hard time deciding whether or not to medicate the tank. The wrasse has been in the qt for 3 weeks now with no symptoms of disease. If anybody has advice for what they would do in this situation I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

was any known problems in tank coming from? If not, I would just observe it for a bit. But you will get different opinions.

As long as the wrasse hasn't been exposed to non-quarantined fish recently, the risk is pretty low that it will be carrying any communicable diseases. Fish often develop disease outbreaks when they are moved, so holding it for a month before moving it into your DT would help.

That said, I quarantine every new fish - even those from other public aquariums.....

I’ll add if you decide on copper to use copper power with wrasse. Mel is hardy and do well in copper

My opinion, he should be fine. If you have been observing for 3 weeks and didn’t show anything yet I would say good to go! there are a bunch of people that would medicate anything before going into their tanks and a bunch that do a quasi QT like you done and some don’t treat or quarantine at all. I’m one that does QT and depending on where they came from I would either just observe before putting in or do a full treatment. Also some fish don’t do well medicated. Anyhow, I did not medicate my malenarus wrasse and he was fine but that is besides the point. Lol
