I just got in a female small melanurus wrasse and I thought it was dead! Whenever I put it in the acclimation tub it just started to slowly flip over and it looks dead. But I saw it just swim for a second and then go back on it’s side. It just keeps flipping upside down.. any help??

How did you acclimate it?

I floated for 15 minutes and then drip acclimated for 30. The fish already came in looking dead so I tried to speed up the acclimation time a little

Shipped? May have gotten to hot. Not much I can add than hope it pulls through.

Yeah, this time of year, long haul shipping can get hot so easily.

MY LFS ordered a melanurus for me last week. It came in the morning, but I could not get there until evening. He floated it the whole day, unopened.

When I got there, it was a big fish (which I asked for) and the bag was filled with fish poo. Like, a lot. He gave me a few milliliters of Amquel and said to dump them in the moment I opened the bag to drip acclimate. Once I opened the bag, the fish laid on its side - a behavior I have seen before but don't really like. The amquel went in and dripped for 30mins mostly him laying on his side. But now he is fine.

I guess my point is, if your fish are to be shipped, consider the intransit weather, and keep a small bottle of Amquel to knock down the accumulated ammonia.

I hope your girl fish made it.

Yeah I was worried about the temperature, but right now is the only time of the year when I can be home to order and receive unfortunately. But yes thank you! Today he is actually swimming around with the other fish in qt!!! I’m so happy!

Couldn’t agree anymore!!!
I had a wrasse arrive seemingly dead last month. It was my first online order. Barely moved for two days and just lied on the bottom glass of QT... no interest in the sand. So "dead" I could net it w no difficulty. Then it was alive. Just like that ;)

Wrasse are weird fish; the last two I have ordered from Liveaquaria DD came in looking ok, acclimated into the tank and then disappear for 2-3 days, then on like day 4 or 5 they come out and act like fine like nothing ever happened. They are a strange fish for sure. Both ended up being very healthy and eating like champs. The last one I also ordered fro LA but on the DD section of the site, during the summer, and arrived with water temps about 71-72F

That sounds just like mine yesterday! This was my first order so I didn’t know what to expect. I’m nervous about the qt part. I dosed prazipro and the melanurus and mcCosker that I have seem fine. Did you qt with copper?

Sounds like you’ve had very good outcomes with liveaquaria’s DD. I was going to order a fish from there but it got sold real quick haha :( yes these are my first wrasse so it’s going to be a lot of learning hopefully :)

I have had good luck, it does not hurt that I live in Manhattan so the shipments arrive here from WI pretty early in the morning, usually before 10am.

Will you post a pic? I love a happy ending

Well right now she is in qt with 2 other fish.
I think it’s just the beginning of the road for her haha
This is the only blurry/ bad pic I have from when the lights were on I’m so sorry.
