Melanurus wrasse with cleaner shrimp?

I haven't had a cleaner shrimp for a few years now, last time I had one I did not have my wrasse. Will my wrasse try to kill it?

Maybe, maybe not. I have a Richmond's wrasse with two cleaner shrimp. He pays them no attention. I think it comes down to the individual wrasse. Also, the shrimp were well established in the tank by the time the wrasse added. Maybe that also has something to do with it.

We've got a melanurus in our 60 with a skunk cleaner, a fire shrimp and a peppermint. Our experience mirrors that of JakeK - the skunk and peppermint shrimp where there first and the wrasse doesn't care. The fire shrimp is new but the wrasse leaves him alone as well.

My Melanurus pays no mind to the Fire or Cleaner shrimp and snails. But, did make a snack out of some Peppermint shrimp I added to take care of some Aptasia. The Peppermint where added after the Melanurus was already in the tank, so that might be a factor.
If you are going to add a shrimp, put it in the tank after lights out.

I kept a M. Wrasse with ornamental shrimp and crabs with no issues. My particular wrasse would snack on small hermits and snails though.

I have a pair of Melanurus Wrass and a collection of fairy and leopard wrasses and my shrimps including a couple if sexy shrimps have been fine since years.
Keeping fish well fed also helps.

a skunk and 2 fire shrimp with the one I had with no issues. All the shrimp were added first and pretty large before the addition of the wrasse though.

Unless your melanarus is massive (8" or so) and your shrimp is tiny (1/2-1") you are most likely to have no trouble.

As @4FordFamily stated, unless the wrasse is very large you shouldn't have any issues. I have a Mystery Wrasse, @3-4" and he doesn't pay ant attention to my shrimp or crabs.

I have the same concern as well. My M. Wrasse is in the terminal phase and is 3 1/4". He is a highly aggressive eater right now and honestly don't know if I can keep him "well feed" he is fed twice a day and yet always seems like he is starving. I feed him until he looks fat.

I want to get a cleaner and blood shrimp for the tank. I likely won't be able to add the shrimp until later down in the road as I have a QT for fish setup and will setup a QT for corals/inverts after I add all my fish (don't have room to run 3 tanks at once so have to do it stages).

I would add the shrimp to the tank at night.

I added a large (4 1/2 inch) melanarus to a tank with 2 smallish peppermint and a small skunk cleaner, no problem. I recently added a goby/pistil pair, and the melanarus really took a run at the pistol before it got under the rock work. Pistol is only slightly smaller than the others. Like the other posts said, timing seems big for them to work out.
