Melaurus or Hoeven's Wrasse

I found my new wrasse sick in the QT this morning. He has been in the QT about two weeks. I'm not sure but I suspect Marine Velvet. He does have a very light coating of white fuzz on him. So, that is my diagnosis, although I claim no expertise. I've added Cupermine to the QT at the recommended doseage. I wasn't sure if this is considered a smooth-skin wrasse or not. But, decided the treatment had to be done. I also have a bi-color blennie and a Lyretail Anthias in the QT with him. Any advice? What are my chances of saving them?

If it is velvet, you wont be able to help it unfortunately. If it is ich, then cupramine can work. Velvet is an awful awful thing. Typically once you see it on the fish they make it about 48 hours. Sorry Bob.

The wrasse died last night. Not real sure it was velvet as the signs were not obvious. The other two fish in the QT are OK for now. Mike, I'll review the article, thanks.

I just read the article. I also have the guide recently released by MrSaltWaterTank. They agree on many aspects of the QT process and I have followed most of their advice to the letter. Their opinions on Copper or Cuperamine differ greatly. MrSaltWaterTank recommends Copper as a prophalatic treatment process during quarantine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and advice. I guess you just choose the route you wish to follow and keep your fingers crossed hoping for success.
