I have a Mel wrasse about 4 inches, he's small in my 125 and my father just bought a new tank but he has a lunar wrasse that's big and mean. The tank he just bought has a Mel wrasse about 5 inches if I added him in my tank so you think he will be ok? I know your no r supposed to but if I put him with the lunar the lunar will forsee kill him. Has anyone had success?

It's like ppl say you can put clownfish together and yes some times you can get away with it but there still not happy one almost always fighting with the other. So no I would never put two wrasse in one tank

If the lunare is the only wrasse it may be trouble, although some wrasse will get over their vendettas and get along eventually. A lunare is quite a bit less aggressive than a lunare so it may be risky - although the lunare may not see the different genus of wrasse as a threat.

If the lunare chases other non wrasse shaped fish already, you can be almost certain he will harass the melanarus like crazy. The only saving grace is that the melanarus can and will hide in the sand but eventually he will have to come out to eat. If the lunare is tank boss and chases other types of new additions then I would not add a melanarus to the mix.

Otherwise it is a toss up

I had to add the wrasse immediately to my tank the water was getting really cold and was in the bucket for about 6 hours. He is in my sump right now breathing very heavy from the shock. Do they usually over come this or will he most likely not make it? I didn't really have a choice to acclimate or add sooner.. installed a 265 at my father's house and he came with the tank

I just would like to save him if there's anything I can do

Easiest way to see what will happen is to put the melunarus wrasse in a acclimation box in the tank and see how the lunar behaves with him in there.

Your fish will most likely hide for multiple days after a big shock like that.Give him plenty of time to recover and offer some nice frozen foods to eat. As for combining a Melanarus and a Lunar wrasse I would say no.I tired it.Lunar wins.

That's why I took him to my house I have another melanurus but he's small. My dad's lunar is also very mean

butt long as they aren't both males you should be fine melanurus generally peaceful. Males can also turn to females. I believe females have dots on their tails
