I have some great prizes to giveaway including a couple Tunze auto-tops, nano tanks, led pendant lighting, and all sorts of stuff but I need some good contest ideas! We giveaway so much and have for years that it's hard to think of good ideas.

One thing to consider when suggesting ideas is that the contest need to be pretty straight forward and simple so that most all people could enter if they wanted too. :)

So PLEASE list a bunch of ideas for me! HA!

i think the first person to post should win the best prize.
wait, thats me! woohoo!

how about a photo contest of the nastiest skimmate?
best sump set up?
best electrical set up?
oddest thing in your tank?

Maybe for the nano tank have people post what they would plan to do with it (what kind of tank, stock, aquascape) and we can vote on the ideas.
Another idea; who can generate the most (legit) posts in a certain time period.
That's all I have right now.

Well everyone has to be able to contribute so you would have to do things a beginner could do too. But something like "post a picture and name of the number one coral/invert/fish on your wish list" could be fun and introduce lots of people to various things. I like the educational ones too. Those could be three separate competitions
sent from my phone.

Something ambiguous like post a photo of the oldest livestock in your tank could be fun too.

Great ideas keep them coming!

Contest for everyone (almost everyone) :

Camera phone only pictures (especially LED owners) of each category separately (fish, inverts, lps, sps, softies, etc)

Members post images of their tank dirty with some type of timestamp and a after pictures.

Could be cleaning coraline, algae , etc.

I like this idea.

I've been thinking about this idea for awhile. This hobby can be expensive and can also get complicated. It can also be done in less complicated ways with a lot less money.

How about a contest for best creative solution to keep the cost of a system low

Now thats a good idea right there!

Maybe do a short video on the proper way to feed your fish and the proper amount of food per feeding. I find that alot of people are having problems with there water parameters due to overfeeding.

On another board, we had a thread called, "Pay it forward."

In that thread, the first person would post something up that they had laying around collecting dust, like a Maxijet pump. He would offer this up, most of the time with free shipping. The person who claimed it would then post something up that they had laying around, and so on.

As for the contest, maybe you could randomly select a gift giver. Seems like a good way for a lot of people to win.

What about a contest building a nano tank. Be specific on size, and make the cost of the project be low enough that it is difficult to do without "engineering" things. Also, if you are using equipment you have laying around, you have to include that in the cost. For instance, I have about $235 bucks in my shroom tank, not including coral. For instance a 2.5 gallon build contest. Probably doable for under $100.

dwillams87 I really like your idea. Set a price for a nano tank and see what people can come up with that budget...

How bout who can do a video "reef2reef" commercial. I think that would be comical

Also, you could do a contest on the opposite end of the spectrum...like for an LED setup, "I have the worst lighting" contest or for a controller, "I need this worse than anybody bc..."

Maybe we could even think about a video scavenger hunt for reef related stuff that has to be caught on film by the contestants (again, I'm thinking this could be really fun and comical).

These are some ideas...

Hmm...I'll keep thinking...
