Merediths 75g upgrade

Oh my! I just got word that my LFS might be able to get some purple tangs in!! Ah! He said they are 4.5 inches and I was really hoping for one a little smaller than that. Of course if I didn't answer quick enough they would all be gone....AGAIN! So I told him to order it quick! Cross your fingers cause he didn't tell me whether they were still available when he placed the order.

My tank is kinda cloudy after installing a carbon reactor with some phosguard in it. I rinsed it out, but apparently not enough. Its clearing up slowly.
I also have this light film over half of my tank. I know what its from.... i moved a power head to try and entice my gbta to come out where i could see it and then i get this film. Now i cant remember how i had the power head before.
I also tried to get a shot of my yellow coris wrasse "sharking". Hes been swimming at the top of the water with his back sticking out of the water a little creating a trail behind him like a shark. Funny enough, he only does this on the side with the film on the water. I think hes trying to tell me to fix it. Lol

Awesome tank and what a journey! Thanks for sharing!

You're more bold than I, I do not drill glass. If there is room for error I always find it! :D

I'm not so bold... I was scared and had my friend drill it because he was so sure of his abilities! Look where that got me, it broke anyway! (my husband stood there and said "shoulda let me do it hunny, I could have done that) lol He was super nice and helped me get a new one for free. so it worked out. Thanks for checking out my build!

Guess whos here!! He came straight from the airport, to the store and i was there to get him before he was even out of the box! Love it when that happens. :) wish me and him lots of luck! Im so nervous... this is the most expensive fish i have ever purchased! Eek!

Thanks! I don't wanna get ahead of myself but he ate a whole clip of nori and frozen meaty foods right away. I had to refill the clip and half of that is gone already. Usually 1 clip lasts all day, so that's good at least.

Update: The tank is still a little cloudy but seem to be clearing up slowly. I did a 10 gallon water change yesterday-which helped- and another 4 gallons or so today. I'm hoping this clears up soon..... I have company coming over in two days and I want it look'n good!

I don't know if this has anything to do with my new feeder (courtesy of [HASHTAG]#paul b[/HASHTAG] ), but my mandarin looks like its gaining weight! She was very very emaciated... and now her stomach isn't nearly as sunken in. I can still see her lateral line going all the way down, so she has a lot more weight to put on, but she's heading in the right direction! YAY!

I hope she doesn't get cellulite.

Very cool

Merideth, The publisher tells me my book will have a Pre order for the E book this Monday. That means it is cheaper for early buyers. I really don't know why as I have virtually nothing to do with selling the book and I get paid in sinking pellets which I never use anyway so I won't be taking any trips with the proceeds of the book. I think the printed version (which is not a gold embossed, leather covered hard copy but a paperback) will be out in a week or two. For some reason the printer wants to get paid (much more than I thought) to print this book because it is 50,000 words (They must have counted) and there are about 120 pictures so it ain't cheap.

Well I'll be on the list to get mine for sure! Thanks for the heads up!

Update: The tank is back to being really clear again. Unfortunately I have lots of bubble algae going on in the back of the rock work now too. I'm sure it's been building it up back there for a while before I noticed it but gee.... it's a lot! I even have 3 emerald crabs in there, who I guess aren't doing their jobs. Well i'll be figuring out a way to get rid of it when I get back from vacation.

On another note: My Green BTA lost all of its tentacles then proceeded to commit suicide in the powerhead. My little RBTA that I found in the sump is still tiny, still white and escaped his whiskey glass! Still moving, still looks like crap. I'm just hoping it will chill out and get better. I've been thinking about just giving it away to somebody local who might be better equipped to heal it up. I just don't think I'm able to keep nems. Kinda like that one fish you can never keep? Mine is anemones I guess.

Emerald crabs eat very slow and bubble algae will grow faster than they will eat it.

That hermit crab is sooo cool. Man I love inverts... >,> How's your purple tang doing?

That's true, and it probably doesn't help that I found two of them dead just now. I popped a bunch of them while trying to syphon them out too. Guess i'll get back from the beach and have even more. It's going to be a green bubbly kind of week next week! lol

Isn't he?!! I love the weird and different. The tang is beautiful and eating like a half starved horse. I really hope it continues to do well for me. I'd love to keep him for, well... ever. He even gets along with everybody else in the tank surprisingly enough.

Sorry to hear about the emerald's crabs and bubble algae. Feel very grateful that I haven't had to deal with that nightmare...yet. I'm a huge fan of weird too :D Unfortunately so many of the really weird stuff require specialized systems  But love the awesome inverts that we can get. I have a pompom crab that I adore and just got a blue tuxedo urchin.... put out a bunch of tiny frags of zoas that I don't care very much about hoping he'll pick them up while I'm out of town for work this week.

Purple tangs are absolutely stunningly gorgeous and I love their shape. So great to hear that he's a good eater and friendly with the other fish :) Don't have much experience with tangs aside from a smallish yellow tang that mysterious dissappeared in my boyfriends forty breeder and a quarter size blue tang who is absolutely my favorite fish EVER. Follows the clowns everywhere and refuses to eat nori bc the clowns don't eat it (he ate it when we first got him but within a week he would only eat pellets and mysis and brine, go figure:confused:) ANYWAY enough about me, really enjoy following your thread. Keep posting pictures ;)

Thanks! I'm pretty bummed about it too. These things happen though! I'll be able to better diagnose any problems when I get back from vacation. At this moment I'm more worried about making sure my tank doesn't explode while I'm away. Luckily I have a very good friend willing to house sit for me last minute. I'll definitely post more pics when I get back!

I had an urchin like that (mine was a light violet color going darker purple at the tips) he was beautiful but really annoying! I ended up taking it back because it kept picking up the corals I actually liked and of course the poor snails couldn't catch a break lol.

Thanks for following!
