So for months I’ve had what I thought was a red Haddoni, but it occurred to me it has very prominent verrucue, and is using them to anchor itself and/or ‘picks up’ stuff with them in the process of try to anchor. Non of my ‘other’ Haddoni’s have this, and after seeing a photo here of a Mertens, I realized that’s probably what it is. Correct me if I’m wrong, but haddoni’s don’t have verrucue that can do this, right?

It may be possible that you have a gig/haddoni hybrid. I have seen quite a few of what appeared to be them coming in. Got pics of the nem? Mouth and underside of disk?

There is no mistaking the Mertensii verrucae. It is clear dark and a lot of them. Haddoni has verrucae that is invisible but does attach to things and it does pick up sand and stuff. Google Mertensii verrucae and you see what I mean.

Share photos. We can easily ID for you. As OrionN mentioned, mertensii verrucae are very distinct. I've never seen a red mertensii, so this should be intersting!

Where is it currently located in your tank? Mertensii typically like to live in the rocks, haddoni (aside from small ones) typically bury their foot in the sand.
